In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford, the protagonist conquered many tough obstacles. These obstacles included three categories known as Man vs Man, Man vs Nature, and Man vs Himself. One example of Man vs Man is when Rainsford first meets the antagonists of the story. Throughout the story Rainsford also fought against many different heights of nature. Lastly when Rainsford was trying to win the game, he was really scared and didn’t know what to do so he was talking to himself. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell Rainsford is attacked with many problems. Throughout “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford made some life threatening enemies that threatened his existence throughout the story. The name of Rainsford's enemies are General Zaroff, and Ivan. In the short story Rainsford learned the fear of being hunted, this is because Zaroff is trying to kill Rainsford. Rainsford then tells himself “‘I will not lose my nerve. I will not.’”(12). At this point Rainsford is very stressed over the fact that he could die at any moment. That is why Rainsford is talking to himself so that he can calm down, survive and make a plan. Together with all the problems Rainsford is facing he acts strong and keeps on fighting. Rainsford is discerned with many problems throughout the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell to make a satisfied ending. In the story Rainsford almost got shot in the head with a revolver. Caught in a giant abyss of quicksand. As well as trying to give himself a pep talk as he was trying to survive the game.
