Dreams of Hamlet It’s like walking the clouds. In the play “Hamlet”, the author makes the audience paint a picture of all the scene, so the audience would understand “Hamlet” better than before. Shakespeare uses imagery to make a vivid picture and help describe what happens in the city of Denmark. Hamlet’s life is not perfect especially when his mother remarried to his father’s brother. Shakespeare uses the images throughout the play to foreshadow death and destruction in the city of Denmark. Hamlet wants to live in a place where anything bad happens, where evil cannot make his presence, and where people are reliable. Just like flowers decay, the lives of Denmark are slowly decaying without warning. The imagery of decay illustrates how the citizens of Denmark are not the same people after the death of the king. Secrets and betrayal is lurking the streets of Denmark and Shakespeare makes the secret of Denmark feel real in the character’s lives. Shakespeare uses Hamlet’s world to show the imagery of decay: “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (I, IV, 90).” Everything in Denmark especially the relationships is crumbling to pieces throughout the play. The motives of the citizens are not trustworthy or good intentions at all. The corruption of “Hamlet” is all the dishonesty and betrayal by the loved ones. Honesty is the cure to save Denmark from doom, but nobody will risk their position on the kingdom especially “King” Claudius.
