They say the game of football teaches life lessons and morals that can only can be caught from the experiences the game brings. Well that’s exactly why I’m still playing the game. It was freshman year coming into high school, you know the first day jiggers and being lost for countless minutes trying to find your class. Making sure you have a pencil and a notebook to write in. Looking around trying to find familiar faces. Nothing was more important to me than was getting on that field and impressing the coaching staff of the freshman team, after all I didn’t come to any of the summer practices because I was out of the country in Dubai with my uncle for the summer and also stopped by Sudan to visit my grandpa. We end up lining up for a quick pat and go, just to get warmed up till we go through the route tree. The route tree consists of all the routes we’ll be using this season (Post, slant, corner, hitch etc.) We eventually go through all of the routes 5 times around because he really emphasizes being a route runner. Then we line up one on one with the defensive backs, we run through our route tree and they’re going through their coverages. “Alright who’s up!” coach Taylor exclaimed. I was very nervous on going first but that was my chance to make an impression on the coaches quick. “I got you coach, I’m up!” I exclaimed. “Look who we have here, what’s your name son?” Coach Taylor said. “Moe, from Dallas, Texas!” I uttered. “Alright son, give me a post.” Coach Taylor exclaimed. I end up running route so smooth and defined that the defensive back couldn’t keep up with me. It was an embarrassing day for the defense. I end up running a couple more and I can tell I’ve caught the attention of coaches Taylor
