Why get certified? Canadians now expect their workplace to proactively implement green initiatives which has replaced the idea of a nice optional thing to do, to an implemented process. This certification will speak of the sustainability of final product but is also implemented to improve and produce a happier and productive workplace, which reflects LEED’s influences on all levels of the project and its existence. A project that has been certified has documented long-term cost benefit for occupants through lower operating costs. The more efficient the project is with its energy consumption the more you will benefit from optimized systems with lower utility bills, you can see a reduction as much as 40 per cent (www.reminetwork.com). The idea of energy consumption or operating costs reflects the idea of long term investment for the long term continual results. Research has been done on the indirect effects on the occupants in a LEED certified building.
