Hans LTD should connect to a WAN. A WAN is defined as “two or more local area networks that are connected together over a wide geographically area. This may be networks located across town, across the state, across the country or across the world.”[1] This is relevant to HANs Ltd because they are currently located in Little Island, Cork but their main suppliers are based in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Belfast and England.

HANs Ltd has currently five full-time sales people working for them. These sales people are currently carrying out all orders manually and having to “post, phoned or faxed” these hand written forms back to Sales Support/Customer Services personnel. But these sales people need to be able to connect to the network in order to …show more content…

Therefore this wouldn’t be a suitable type of VPN for HANs.

Tunnel VPN allows multiple connections to the network. As we know HANs has multiple people who need to access the network while outside of the building.

Therefore we recommend HANs Ltd to implement SSL tunnel VPN. This “allows a Web browser to securely access multiple network services, including applications and protocols that are not Web-based, through a tunnel that is running under SSL. SSL tunnel VPNs require that the Web browser be able to handle active content, which allows them to provide functionality that is not accessible to SSL portal VPNs. Examples of active content include Java, JavaScript, Active X, or Flash applications or plug-ins.”[2]

The ability of SSL tunnel VPN to access and use these types of applications means that employees on the move, working from home or from different building in the case of future expansion will be able to have the same access as if they were connected to the HANs Ltd local area network.

This option is great for potential expansion of HANs Ltd as it plans to expand into another premise, therefore they can connect to the existing local area network through SSL tunnel
