1. My reason for being in the field of early childhood development is because I have always found myself fascinated by how a child’s mind develops over time, I find that children are some of the most interesting groups to understand. However, the more in-depth version of why I study child development is because I have always from young age wanted to help others and work with children, so I started taking classes in child development because I want to be an occupational therapist and I wanted to learn more about child development. Then the more classes I took I realized I loved working with children with special needs, so I realized that although I still wanted to be an occupational therapist, I wanted to do something with special needs or child life along side studying to be an occupational therapist.
2. I have taken the required units to graduate with a child development degree, but alongside the 24 units required I have taken child development 130 for infant development, and child development 164 for special need children. The work experiences that I have gain in the field of child development are babysitting, volunteering for the YMCA, Montclair’s youth center, and through the hours of observation needed for the child development courses. I have enjoyed each hour that I have earned of experience because each opportunity that I was given has shown me a new lesson to learn, new tools to use in the future, and has over all made me a better care taker and child development student. Furthermore, I do see myself working with children in 5,10 and 15 years because I hope that in the future I can work in the pediatric area of occupational therapy whether it is at a district or hospital. I hope that the knowledge that I gain as a child development major assists with me understanding the children I will work along side and helps my career by opening many doors and
