Avni Sinaga HR O’Neill Cornell University Cornell University is an amazing school. Cornell is well known for their Big Read Bears mascot and the school colors, white and carnelian. Cornell attracts many students from all over the world. There are multiple reasons why people are attracted to Cornell University. The reasons vary from the professors to student life and even the environment of where the school is located. Cornell University draws attention from multiple high school students because of the great alumni who have attended it in the past. Some notable alumni are William Sanford “Bill” Nye, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Mae C. Jemison. 16% of students at Cornell major in Engineering, 13% major in Agriculture, 13% major in Biology and other biological sciences, 13% major in Business and Marketing, and 11% major in Social Services. Cornell also has the best postgraduate schools in the nation like their Business, Law, Engineering, and Medical programs. Overall, Cornell University offers a great education. The curricular and professors at Cornell impacts the students who attend. The staff student ration is 1:9. In 2014, 55% of students said they had 22 or less students in most of their classes. 27% say other classes had 20-49 students in their classes. The other 18% said they had 50 or more other students in their class. The classes are smaller than normal, but it helps the students receive a great education. It helps students understand the subject at a closer level. Cornell University attracts a large number of students. All students apply to Cornell, from high school seniors to transfer students and even students from all over the world. Over 40,000 apply and only 5,600 are admitted. Out of those 5,600 applicants, 1,500 actually attend Cornell University as freshmen in 2014. In 2016, 22,000 students attended Cornell. 52% are female students and 48% are male. Men’s Ice Hockey is the most popular sports at Cornell University. Cornell in the past have made it very far in sports games. From 1892, their ice hockey team have won the Ivy League title 21 times and many more to come. Cornell has also won the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Tournament Championship a record 12 times. The current coach for the Big Red is Mike Schafer and he has been coaching for 21 years. Many of the hockey playing alumni, have gone on to playing in the NHL and even farther. At hockey games, Cornell is always represented by most students cheering in the bleachers. Cornell students bleed for the Big Red. Students who apply to Cornell are attracted by the location. Cornell University is located in Ithaca, New York in the United States. The surrounding is a woodland type scenery. Besides the university, there is more to Ithaca. There's a downtown filled with shops and farmers markets. There is a lot to do, especially outdoor activities. Ithaca has beautiful state parks, and a national forest nearby that is perfect for boating, kayaking, and hiking. The local residence is made up of past alumni and students who live off-campus. Ithaca is a great place to live, even if you are not a Cornell
