A Home Away from Home: New Beginnings Becoming Old Dreams The University of Texas Tech was established in 1923, and today 36,551 students attend. (“U.S. News & World Report”). Many people think that Texas Tech University is for partying and fun, but really it is a successful school. In fact, “Texas Tech University is ranked #176 in National Universities.” (“U.S. News & World Report”). TTU has a large variety of majors, one of the most popular being kinesiology, which I am planning on majoring in. Why do I choose to attend Texas Tech University? Texas Tech offers many students services, the most important to me are health services, tutoring, and placement services. More important assistance is its up to date campus safety and security services. For me, safety is one of my biggest concerns because I want to feel safe and secure on campus. I am excited to be a Red Raider so I can meet new friends, learn life lessons, learn how to cope with different lifestyles and people, and eventually live out my dream career. I know that Texas Tech freshmen students enjoy and recommend Tech, because quoted by U.S. News & World Report, “The average freshman retention rate, an indicator of student satisfaction, is 83 percent.” At Texas Tech, there is a dorm called Murdough. I plan to live there because it has The Market. “The Market at Stangel/Murdough creates a food court atmosphere with the entrees prepared right before your eyes. The Market hosts numerous options to satisfy all students' appetites.” (“Hospitality Services”). Most TTU students wish they stayed in this dorm because it has the best and cheapest food on the campus, a great laundry area, and several study lounges where students help each other on homework.
