One of my college professors said on the first day of college, “We are all lifelong learners, and I hope the day you graduate from college isn’t the last day you learn something.” This statement really struck home to me, so I sat there and pondered what she meant by this. School is not only a gift, but it is also a tool that an individual will use for the rest of their lives. Not everyone on this planet, or in other words this country, are lucky enough to go to school until they are eighteen years old and some may not attend a single day of school in their whole lives. While in high school, I was a member of our school’s chapter of the National Honor Society, the Varsity baseball team, a part-time lifeguard for our school pool, a math tutor for students in need, and I was on the Community Education Student Advisory Board. My senior year I was lucky enough to be elected by my peers to be the president of my school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. During the summer, I play on two different baseball teams, I coach one baseball team, I am a member of our local church, and I coordinate our local Summer Rec program. Baseball is one of my passions and it fills up much of my time during the summer. Coordinating our local Summer Rec program has had a great impact on my life. I was the coordinator during the summer of 2016 and I will also be coordinating again this upcoming summer of 2017. While being the coordinator, I have to make decisions that affect our community, my employees, and also the children. I enjoy having this leadership role, and it has taught me many useful traits, such as responsibility, professionalism, communication, leadership, and many more. This job directly correlates with what I plan to do with my future, teaching.
