The Story of My Search Who would have known that at the age of sixteen, my career choice would appear? They work with children in mainly hospitals but also in clinics. The reason I chose this field as my career research was because of my experience with them while I was in Le Bonheur. This is what made me want to become a Nurse Practitioner. I admire the selected individuals who work in this field. I know that a nurse practitioner works with all age groups, but I really wanted to know the role that they play in the lives of different people each day. By using MS Choices, the Occupational Outlook Handbook website, and providing interview questions, I discovered vital facts about my career choice that I can now use to plan my future. Nurse practitioners have many roles. Most nurse practitioners help a variety of people who are sick, or in need of assistance. They also assist physicians while they are in an appointment which includes having to give treatments and do exams. These nurses can work in hospitals, private offices, or home health-care agencies. In the state of Mississippi there are currently between two thousand and three thousand jobs available. In the United States there are over one hundred, seventy thousand jobs available. The employment outlook between 2014 and 2024 is supposed to increase by thirty – one percent. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) There is a lot of studying and training to go along with being a nurse practitioner. They must first be a registered nurse. In order to become a registered nurse, the individual must two or four year nursing degree and pass a very tough licensing exam. Nurse practitioners can get additional certification through the National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses. They must also obtain a Master’s Degree. In 2015, the median salary for a nurse practitioner is $104,740 per year and $50.36 per hour. (Occupational Outlook
