I have developed leadership qualities when my Tae Kwon Do coach trusted me to lead our team during national championships. This has led me to then hold various leadership positions in undergraduate and dental school clubs. Moreover, my critical thinking abilities have excelled from being a mathematics and physics tutor. Tutoring has always challenged me to think outside the box in complicated problems, and this would allow me to use my creative skills when facing complex cases in my field. Persistence is another key element that is crucial in success.
This definition of Leadership is best restated by my very own father “A person can demonstrate leadership skills even when not in a leadership position.” Throughout my high school years so far, I have demonstrated leadership mostly in the field of Boy Scouting in two different Troops. I started out my leadership trail in Boy Scouting by becoming a Troop Scribe who as per se the Boy Scout Handbook, 2016 Edition “The Scribe attends and keeps a log of patrol leaders’ council meetings. He records attendance and dues payments of all troop members and records advancement in troop records and on the troop advancement chart.” After that, I ascended into becoming a Patrol Leader and then acting as a Senior Patrol Leader, the highest youth leader of the troop, handling all patrols’ affairs and coordinating with the Scoutmaster for advice and consent.
Growing up, children have nicknames, mine was "lemonade" because when life gave me lemons I made lemonade out of any situation. When I was given this nickname I was unaware of the trials I would later face in life, but as always I made lemonade out of the situations. One of my favorite things to do has always been to challenge myself and push my own limits, physically and academically. When I was 7 years old I asked for a unicycle for Christmas and taught myself to ride it. I've always had a motivation that can be matched by few, and a drive to be unique.
I believe I uphold the leadership characteristics that name a successful leader as well as mentors I have worked with. Additionally, a leader is not born, they are taught. Leadership is gained through experience. Flexibility is a part of leadership because you need to adapt
As for my leadership I hope to improve on what I have already. Being a leader on sports teams before I have learned a few things. One is that being a leader is never about yourself, it 's about getting everyone involved and listening to what others have to say. Also even though you are called a leader doesn 't mean you know everything, so if you’re ever stuck on a hard decision fine some help; never stop learning. I make sure I always remember these two things for my leadership.
When it comes to leadership, there is one thing that I am very proud of. As a senior team captain and unquestioned leader I had a massive task on my hands this year. Coming off of a winless season the football team was lacking commitment and and there were many questions about how the teams was going to bounce
I am still looking for more opportunities to show my leadership and through NHS, I am hopeful I can accomplish that. One moment that showed my role as a leader, was mentoring the younger team of a sport I came to love recently. Lacrosse has become a passion of mine in a short period, I devote many hours to the sport to become an advert team player. I started building connections and friendships with younger players; we both would connect on the sport as I showed my love for it, and being able to help them out. Another leadership role that I demonstrate is being the section leader for my orchestra class.
As a candidate for the National Junior Honor Society, I understand that is it not important to only have good grades and help the community. Being in NJHS means that you have to be a role model to everyone around you. A role model is someone who is a leader, demonstrates citizenship, and has good character. One aspect of being a role model is having leadership. Honesty, integrity, commitment, passion, accountability, and empathy are some of the qualities that all leaders should have.
I possess all the traits necessary and even more to be a good leader. I am patient, friendly, and most importantly dedicated. One thing I will never do is give up, even if I don’t get it right off the bat. When I face challenges, I don’t accept defeat after the first try. Instead, I challenge myself until I get it right.
Although I had to overcome many obstacles, the concept of determination was especially important throughout the journey. I have worked very hard to earn the opportunity to even be considered for National Honors Society. Another quality I can speak to is my positive attitude. There are many qualities that make up a good leader, and I hope that I can set an example for others. I provide creative ideas, I am very passionate about everything that I am involved in, I have a drive for success, and do not break under pressure, especially in a leadership role.
I am a “leader” many ways in and out of school. In school I am in Environmental, Interact, Journalism, Elementary Connections, and Student Council clubs. I also hold offices in three of these clubs. I am Vice President of Student Council and Secretary in both Journalism and Environmental clubs. I am also involved with Youth Leadership; we go on monthly field trips around the county to learn about leadership roles in the community.
Acquiring leadership skills along with a strong character and the sense to serve others is vital. A leader should be resourceful, dependable, selfless, and a good problem solver. I have led in many ways- inside and outside of school. Last year as a tenth grader, I was class secretary for Class Council.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to possibly be a part of National Junior Honor Society. I would appreciate being able to be a part of this group to help better the school and it’s environment for people that work there. This would give me a chance to give back to the school district that has gotten me where I am today and has taught me so much. Scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship are qualities not normally seen in every child today and are big shoes to fill.
A mentor in nursing is defined as someone who can facilitate learning, supervise and asses nursing students in a practice setting. This in turn produces efficient and effective students who become competent and will have mastered the craft and art of caring. Mentorship is significant to students as it helps students develop their professional identities, attributes and competence and also enables students to learn through the creation of the supportive working and learning environment as an individual (Clutterbuck 2004). Decisions taken by mentors in assessing students have significant impacts on securing the nursing workforce in the future. This is because they help safeguard the ongoing excellence in the delivery of personalized patient care while making a major contribution to the development of the nursing profession.
