Ever since I was younger, I understood that I wanted a career that required me to interact with other people. Furthermore, I knew that I wanted a job in healthcare because it was a field where I could make an immediate difference in someone’s life. Like many others, I first turned to the path of a doctor since it appeared to have all of the requirements. In my junior year of high school, I began having doubts about going down the physician route as I want a career that would allow me to have a healthy balance between both my personal and professional life. After researching other careers in healthcare, I stumbled upon physician assistant. Another aspect of the profession that drew me to this job was the fact that physician assistants are able to have autonomy in their fields and they still have a supervising physician to direct all their questions to. It reassures me that there will always be someone to answer my inquiries there in case I have any confusion. Being a physician assistant serves both as a job and a learning experience. All of these factors allowed me to decide that being a physician assistant was the most optimal career path for me. When college first began, I was filled to the brim with excitement as it was my first time being independent. What I did not expect was how difficult the transition would be.
