What is its name? What kind is she? Is she friendly? Can I hold her? Where is she from? Why does she act like she does? What is her natural habitat like? What are some food sources and defense mechanisms? These are only some of the questions I have had or will have to answer when I work my dream job. I really enjoy being in control of my life. I truly believe one of the only ways to do this and combine my love of animals is to own my own business. This will give me a ton of freedom. It also allow me to own, learn, play with and teach others about the assorted animals I may acquire. One component would be giving basic needs to the animals that I will have. These needs include but are not limited to providing the appropriate food, water, shelter, bedding, sanitary environments and health care. Another component would be frequent contact with the animals, and this contact could be nurturing or entertaining. Some animals need frequent nurturing contact like humans, or they might succumb to death. Unlike some generic jobs, my work hours would vary depending on the demands of animal needs and customer requests. I plan on working “officially” 5 days a week. In order to maintain appropriate housing for the animals, and have a large enough area to entertain customers I would have to obtain a customizable location. In owning a small business there are many advantages and disadvantages. Being my own boss allows me freedom to earn a substantial amount of money, but there is always the possibility of losing it. Every aspect of the business is mine to control, but as the saying goes “with great power comes great responsibility”. The salary is estimated to be anywhere from $17,580 to $49,840- Occupational Handbook. This of course is also contingent upon customer request. The years of experience in this field are important to a certain degree. This is mainly shown in the interaction between the animals and my customers and the way I handle the delicate balance between the two. The education I intend to obtain is the reason that I can share these animals with the public. My shift differential is based on people and when they are willing to come in. This can include any activity from birthday parties to science academies and anything in between or beyond. As with all occupations, hazards are just a part of the life. This is especially true when working with animals that have a mind of their own. Even though being your own boss has its perks “hazard pay” isn’t exactly one of them. Location is also dependent on others convenience. People are more willing to come when it is close or available for them. A business like this works only when you are willing to put forth the effort required. All of these things are merely some variables of the potential salary earnings of my particular
