As technology continues to grow in the automotive industry, the need for skilled car technicians has grown.Being an automotive technician, also known as a mechanic, requires technical problem-solving skills. What exactly are the requirements needed to be an automotive technician? What are some of the main responsibilities that a technician must fulfill? What benefits does a career as an automotive technician provide?

Automotive technicians may also perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake replacements. They must be able to read technical manuals, diagrams and use diagnostic tools to identify issues on customers' vehicles. Automotive technicians must be able to communicate with customers to explain the repairs needed and provide cost estimates. In doing so they must have the knowledge to communicate that information properly.
One of the benefits of being an automotive technician is the stability of a good paying career. The annual salary for automotive service technicians averages about 50,000, some can make up to 100,000. Salaires can depend on factors such as experience, location, and certification level. Automotive technicians also have the opportunity for overtime pay or bonuses. Most shops usually have a calculated estimated cost of every repair, which benefits the technician if they can do the diagnostic in a faster time than what is estimated to be they will be getting paid
