Personal Statement

Please describe your specific area of academic interest, and explain what motivated you to choose this area.
As been worked as a professional engineer in the oil and gas industry and most recently with the provincial government for over 10 years, I finally made one of the most important decisions during my life, i.e. pursing a Ph.D. Program in Environmental Systems Engineering. The motivations are coming from multiple aspects. First of all, the global environmental issues related to upstream energy sector have brought out intentions that how to reduce the environmental impacts to meet public expectations and conserve resources. Secondly, there has been increasing interests and efforts made in Canada and Saskatchewan, by Government, industry and research groups, in the areas of policy development, operational practices and new technologies and methods to address these issues. Last but not the least, my current job function particularly leads my interests in studying environmental aspects at the advanced education level to equip me strong technical knowledge to solve complicated problems under uncertainties, while regulating oil and gas development activities to mitigate their associated environmental issues. There are very limited resources and expertise in our organization to achieve this goal.

Degree in Oil Production Engineering in 1997; I received two M.A.Sc. Degrees in Oil and Gas Reservoir Development Engineering and Petroleum Systems Engineering, in 2000 and 2007 respectively, specialized in oil and gas development, production and optimization technologies. I am currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) at Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). With such work and study experience plus my passion to study at a higher education level, I have prepared myself to be successful in a Ph.D. Program in Environmental Systems
