No one ever thought that he would amount to anything. They thought he was a nobody. They thought he was stupid. He proved them wrong. Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany on March 14, 1879. He was born to Herman Einstein, a salesman, and Pauline Koch. At the age of 1, he and his family moved to Munich, Germany. There, his father and his uncle founded an electrical equipment manufacturing company called Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein & Cie. Direct current (what Hermann's company was based on) lost the war of currents to something called "alternating current. While Hermann was searching for a job, he showed Albert a compass. Einstein wondered how the needle inside the compass could move. As he got older and older, he made models and devices for the thrill of it, and people started to find out his talent for mathematics. While Einstein was still a young boy, his father moved the family a lot, in search of a job. First they moved to Milan, and then to Pavia. By 1900, Albert's paper "Conclusions Capillarity Phenomena" was published. Albert wrote and published many works during his time, and many of them are very well known. Hoffmann writes, saying that "While not everyone might know it, I guarantee that most people have heard of at least one of Albert's papers." (Hoffman 200). Albert also wrote many more papers other than the CCP. He is well known for his paper titled "Theory of Relativity". Some other works of his are: Transformation of Light, A New Determination of Molecular Dimensions, and Quantum Theory of Monatomic Ideal Gases. After graduating from school, he began work at a patent office in Switzerland. He worked as an examiner. He would look at the patent applications for many types of items, including an electric typewriter. Albert was often overlooked at the Patent office, especially when jobs in higher ranking went available.
