Gbeminiyi Soname Professor Fountain ENGL 1301 September 20, 2105 Attack on Titan: “Is it worth its fandom?” Imagine a world where humans are forced to be kept behind a massive wall all because there are giant monsters (which resemble humans) ready to eat them alive for no particular reason. In the dark fantasy manga, Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama uses his artistic skills to portray a world where the human race was almost put to extinction and was able to survive by building enormous walls to protect themselves from man-eating Titans. Since its debut, this manga has captured its audience’s attention and has a huge fan base because of its depiction of a semi-apocalypse world with cannibalistic giants and a mystery-laden story. At the same time, there are children playing in the field, mothers washing clothes, and merchants opening their shop. To the readers, it looks like any other fantasy village they have seen in other fictional mangas or novels. However, it also shows that a 50 meter wall surrounds the village, and there are guards with peculiar machines securing the gates. People may not know this, but pacing is important when it comes to animation. Pacing helps the audience to be on track with each episode and keep them engaged as the episodes come up every week. The anime is like a roller coaster; it goes from ongoing monologues to action packed scenes, which consist of characters jumping from buildings to buildings killing off huge Titans and defending themselves for survival. The pacing seem slightly off, and it should be fixed in order maintain its views and popularity. Overall, this manga have fascinated its audience, and have grown to be a success.
