The presence of a certain character helps developing the story and its content. IN the Skin Of A Lion, Caravaggio was one of the important characters that contributed to deliver ideas related to the novel. The presentation about Caravaggio helped me understand why Caravaggio helped Patrick to confront Harris. As well as the choice of presenting Caravaggio as a thief. Also, the presentation made me able to c onnect Caravaggio’s real life to the contrast between light and dark.
First of all, in the novel, Caravaggio was presented mainly as a thief although he was a painter too. This left me confused by the way of presenting him that bad. In the presentation, one of the most significant reasons by which Caravaggio went to jail; was because of his style of painting. Caravaggio used to draw paintings for church, he used to reveal the truth by drawing poor people. However, when the Pope did not like his style, he sent him to jail. From what I deducted, the concept of expressing yourself was not allowed back then. And this helped developing the idea of class conflict and how some workers were not appreciated. So, the reason behind Caravaggio’s helping Patrick confronting Nick, was that because they both had been through the exact same situation where they both have lost something or someone precious. For example, Caravaggio was forbidden of painting, so was Patrick who was forbidden to see Alice after her death. This could tell us that Caravaggio was sighed and wanted to help Patrick take revenge from Harris. Taking revenge was a reason of his imprisonment and a coming back over the theme of rich and poor. Caravaggio presented the poor, as told in the presentation, and that’s why he was “QUOTE”. This explains to us his hatred towards the rich and his pleasure in spoiling their lives as they did to him and his friend
