I do not believe that carbohydrates are bad or unhealthy for you. The reason carbohydrates are labeled unhealthy and are considered a contributing factor to obesity is because people overindulge in simple carbohydrates like white rice, white bread, and candy. A healthy and balanced meal includes carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are needed in a healthy balanced diet, because they are the body’s main source of energy (The Truth About Carbs, 2014). A balanced diet includes complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, and lentils that are considered good carbohydrates because they take more time to break down in the digestive system (Good vs. Bad Carbohydrates, 2013).
