I think that Chris had a reason to go to Alaska even if it was only a thing that he wanted to do. The final thing that makes me disagree with Callerman’s argument is that he says that McCandless is crazy and I disagree because he was not crazy at all but I do agree because when he was stuck in the wild he was getting crazy because he was alone and he noticed that he couldn’t leave. These are the reasons why I disagree with Callerman’s argument that McCandless is arrogant, and that he had no reason to go to Alaska, and that Chris McCandless is

In fact, people can say that he was stupid because Chris left at a young age. As Krakauer states “He didn’t appear to be very old: eighteen maybe nineteen at most. A rifle protruded from the young man’s backpack” (Krakauer 3). Chris wanted to go live of the land without having any knowledge of Alaska and he only bring a small bag of rice and a small .22 caliber rifle. It doesn’t make sense.
Into the wild, is a book by Jon Krakauer that later got turned into a film by Sean Penn, it follows the life of Christopher McCandless, who graduated from Emory University as a top student and athlete with wealthy pushing parents. Instead of continuing his life as a working man of society and taking his offers at top law schools, he decides to ultimately completely disconnect himself from society and instead tries to find his own meaning of life in the wild. Shaun Callarman says “ I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time.” and i really agree with him on that because even though he left his college a top student the way he wanted to completely disconnect himself the way he did was ignorant. Not only that In the movie it clearly shows that even though he didn't want to connect with people on his journey to alaska he did, I think that if he wouldn't have been so set on being alone and not being attached to others he wouldn't have died the way he did.

What is a hero? A hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. There are many people who meet the characteristics of a hero, but Chris McCandless is not one of them. There are many reasons that prove why McCandless does not meet the characteristics of a hero and there is many other people who do meet the criteria of a hero. My idea of a hero is a someone who takes on large tasks and shows great bravery in his/her character.

The author through the story proves that Christopher had a very complicated relationship with his family, leading to a loss of identity and eventually the journey with no turning back.
