To start off with I will be telling you how Christopher Columbus is a bad villain. One reason on how C.C. was a villain is that he never treated the native americans equal to each other and he had them as slaves that would work for him, but if they didn’t work or didn’t cooperate with him they would kill them. Also another reason why C.C. was
I agree that his accidental discovery ultimately led to the massacre of countless Natives. Although, he might be considered a hero for 'discovering ' the New World. However, there were several who came before him and inhabited the land, such as the Natives. Thus, the impossibility of discovering something that had already been in place. For this reason, I would not consider Columbus a hero.
When Christopher Columbus set out in 1492 to make his great discovery, I do not think he felt his reputation would ever be called into question, after all, he was settle out with the blessing of the Spanish monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella. I think that he felt his intentions were true and he was determined to be just in his acquisition of the New World. All in all, I believe Christopher Columbus to be neither all good nor all bad because I think him to be both. When Columbus came upon the new found land he sent word back of its vast beauty and fertility. Even though many people believe that christopher columbus was a hero I have found in my opinion that I believe he was a villain. I believe this because in the 4th document in the article about Christopher Columbus it was said that many people and indians were killed after his arrival and before his arrival there were many more people there than after his arrival. The people were killed from war, slavery and working in mines for Columbus. One other reason that I believe he was a villain is because if I was those people who were ruled by Columbus I would have stood up for not just me but everyone who was being mistreated by Columbus.
Author Ian W. Toll puts it in a quite interesting way in his book review of Laurence Bergreen’s The Four Voyages: “Christopher Columbus, rediscoverer of America, was a visionary explorer. He was a harbinger of genocide. He was a Christianizing messiah. He was a pitiless slave master. He was a lionhearted seaman, a rapacious plunderer, a masterly navigator, a Janus-faced schemer, a liberator of oppressed tribes, a delusional megalomaniac.

He authored a four-book biography of Columbus and portrayed him as a brave American hero. “Columbus was a man of great and inventive genius. His ambition was lofty and noble, inspiring him with high thoughts and an anxiety to distinguish himself by great achievements. His conduct was characterized by the grandeur of his views and the magnanimity [nobility] of his spirit.” Instead of writing, that Columbus was devastating to the newly found nation and that he sought to take over, cultivate and civilize the Natives.

Christopher Columbus was not a hero, and hurt more than he helped. Although his voyages helped pave the way for more discoveries, Columbus could have went about much more respectfully and he could have been more considerate of the Native Americans already living in lands he “explored.” Therefore, I find Columbus to be a
Christopher Columbus is a man who is commonly depicted as a hero and great explorer who discovered our modern day America, but many of the so called “facts” are not all completely true as people would like to believe. Columbus was undoubtedly a courageous explorer who brought many new ideas, cultures, and resources to be exchanged between the New World and Europe. While this is true, it is not uncommon for people to forget the harmful effects brought along with the voyages made by Columbus and the darker details of his times in America. Columbus started from humble middle class family. Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa as the oldest of his four siblings.
After being turned down by many monarchs, and being rejected at least twice by Spain, Columbus received royal support in January 1492. A great part of his gained support came through the help of Luis de Santángel, the Spanish treasurer, and the Franciscan friars of La Rábida. Columbus alas set out on his voyages with the aid of King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I, the monarchs of Aragon, Castile, and Leon in Spain. The voyage was an attempt to find a route to china, to India, and to the islands of the East by sailing westward over what was, at the time in theory, open sea. Though many reasons were involved in in the decision to fund Columbus’ voyages, the main interests were the

Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
