Christopher Columbus was an amazing sailor. Although he did many bad things, like notify and encouraged kidnapping, murder and rape. There are good and bad perspectives on the argument wether he, Christopher Columbus, was a hero or a villain. Columbus is not a bad man, he had no choice but to go on with the voyages. When Columbus first encountered the tainos, he described them as kind and noble. He treated them well and earned their trust. When he left most of his men with the Tainos he told them to take care of them and treat them respectfully. When he brought some of the Taino back to Spain it wasn’t completely right, but it was to prove that he had discovered something new. If he didn’t bring anything back all that time and energy would go to waste. He never meant anything bad for the Tainos, and he said so himself. …show more content…

It was only later on that it got bad and illegal. The King and Queen forced him to enslave the people, and even turn them into christians! It wasn’t Columbus’ fault, because if he just quit he would be poor, and not have anything. He had made a couple of mistakes and Queen Isabella would ruin his life, because of all the money she spent on him. She was the one who was greedy. She wanted to make all of those poor people slaves and sell them to everyone in the country. Today, that Columbus was definetly not a hero. He enslaved several thousands of children, and adults. He notified rape and murder, and was the leader of it. I do not know about how it was at that time, but that is a crime. Also there is no reason not to believe that he also took part in the murder and rape. No one could do anything, even his men. His men couldn’t resign before they came back to Spain, or they would be left with the Taino’s. They wouldn’t get to see their family ever again if they stepped up to him.
