“We are in a society of underrated truths and overrated lies”. This quote is a correct representation of the teaching of history in schools throughout the United States and more specifically the story about Christopher Columbus and why some humans celebrate Thanksgiving. What schools do not want students to learn about is Columbus did not land in America, but instead on a little island in the Caribbean Sea. He was never the first person to even walk onto the island like history teachers taught us. There were already people living there and they ended up being enslaved by Columbus and his men. The only reason people think he was the first one is because of what students are taught in history class. Columbus was not a moral man, he enslaved people of their land and took their spices, and their women. understand why society is taught to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day, 4th of July, and Memorial Day because they are all recognizing our country and how it was made better, but there is no reason at all to celebrate Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was the first time the pilgrims and Native Americans set aside their differences and feasted together. Not everybody knows what happens a couple of hours later after the meal. Everyone was friendly until the pilgrims burned as many native Americans' houses and land as they could while the Native Americans were distracted and rejoicing. The Native Americans were caught so off guard they had no time to react. The feast with the Native Americans was a surprise attack on them and it worked successfully. By celebrating this holiday, our economy is taught to celebrate a mass killing of Native Americans by the pilgrims which are what our government goes against. Our government made a baseball team switch from the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians. The same concept to the football team, the Washington Redskins were forced to switch to the Washington Commanders. The reason why is that they did not want to offend any of the Native American tribes in America. So our government fully supports not offending Native Americans at all so humans should not be celebrating a holiday about the pilgrims killing their other peoples
