Christopher Columbus, Worth the Celebration? The world has glorified many historical people, especially early explorers. One such explorer is Christopher Columbus. Historians have discovered that perhaps Columbus was given honor prematurely. It is believed that Christopher Columbus is a hero for discovering the New World, but new discoveries now say that he did more than just discover a new piece of land. When I went to Burnsville Elementary school I was taught that Christopher Columbus was a massive hero known to the world because he had discovered new land. I was told that his dream was to find India but once he had arrived to an island he thought he was in India and called the people who lived there which were Native Americans, he called them Indians due to his perspective that he thought they were Indians. I was also taught that Christopher Columbus had thanksgiving with the pilgrims and traded stuff with the natives. I learned that he was not a nice person at all. He raped little young girls ages 9 to 11 and he also sold them to his men that he traveled with so that they could have their sexual needs. The fact that I thought he was a hero, but in reality he was not made me very upset. Also the ideas of him treating the natives terribly wrong, killing them, and treating them in such an inhuman cruel way is just not right at all. We all visualize a hero as a kind, got to him for any help if needed at any time, a hero is somebody who you can feel comfortable with and mostly safe. In my eyes I do not see Christopher Columbus as a hero at all. My way of seeing him has completely changed. A person like Christopher Columbus should not be given thanks or celebrate his name on the 2nd day of October. It would be like praising to
