Cindy Sherman is known as one of the best photographers in contemporary art. Her work dates all the way back to the 1970’s to present day. Her work has been called important and influential to most that view it. What makes Sherman so unique is that she has been using herself as her own model in her pictures for well over 30 years. Sherman’s photographs are known for their provocative taste and for pushing the boundaries. She draws her inspiration from TV, magazines, the Internet, and art history. With every avenue of new inspiration, comes a new role Sherman morphs herself into. In addition to being the model in her pictures, Sherman also takes the role of artist, hairdresser, stylist, and wardrobe designer. She envisions herself in many different scenarios, wearing an array of exotic costumes, wigs; make up, prosthetics, and props. Although some might think this way of expression is brilliant, others have said that Sherman’s art is disturbing and distasteful. …show more content…

Some of Sherman’s most noteworthy works of art are, “Untitled Film Stills” which shows Sherman in many stereotypical female roles based in the 1950’s. Other works are, history portraits where she had herself made over into a milkmaid and a clergyman to name a few to mimic the job titles throughout history. In her more recent works of art (2008) she depicted the process of aging. These were not the only themes she has chosen throughout the years to embody. She has also touched on cinema, myth, carnival, fairy tale, gender, class identity, and
