In the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby is crazy due to his love obsession with Daisy. Throughout the book, Gatsby has been a mysterious rich guy that no one knows anything about besides rumors regarding him. No one knows why he lives there, why he is throwing all the parties, and how he makes all of his money. As Nick and Gatsby create a friendship Gatsby begins to trust Nick and lays the truth on him. As a result, Gatsby admits his love for Daisy.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby, the story unfolds through the perspective of a character named Nick, who meets a man hosting many parties named Gatsby. Gatsby wants to take his old girlfriend Daisy from her current husband named Tom, who is extremely rich and powerful and is himself having an affair with a working class woman named Myrtle. Gatsby gets Daisy back and they have a secret relationship until he confronts Tom and tells him that Daisy doesn't love him. This revelation leads to an argument among the three characters, ultimately resulting in Gatsby's tragic demise. This plays in how individuals see Daisy as a character in the book The Great Gatsby. Daisy was spoken to as an ill bred lady that is certainly not a legend.
Women often feel like a commodity or prize to be won. For example, Wealthy women are sought after for their position in society. In The Great Gatsby, the pursuit of wealth through Daisy shows this when Gatsby says, “Her voice is full of money”(120). Daisy is not heard for what she is saying but only by what she can offer. Daisy conforms to the restrictive gender roles of the 1920’s, while also challenging the limits of these roles. Female roles are defined as obedient, fragile, and oblivious.
