Today, we live in a world where media professional athletes receive an incredible amount of attention from the media; much more attention than these athletes would like. No matter where they are, on the field or off the field, every action an athlete makes is being recorded. Most athletes can’t deal with the pressure. There are daily reports of athletes involved in murder, stealing, drug use, rape, domestic violence and many others. These types of reports seem to dominate the news. But, for the past twenty years, the media has been lucky enough to cover Derek Jeter. He is an athlete who is always professional on and off the field. On the field, Jeter was named The Sporting News and Baseball America Minor League player of the year in 1994. In 1996 he was named to the Topps All Star rookie team and was also named American League Rookie of the Year. He received much positive media attention at such a young age, and this attention would only increase as his career goes on. Jeter was also a 14 time American League All Star, which is tied for the 8th most MLB All Star game appearances ever. In 2000, Jeter was named the MVP in both the All Star game and in the World Series. He was a 5 time American League Gold Glove winner and a 5 time American League Silver Slugger Award winner. Jeter was a 2 time American League hits leader and had 3 20-home run seasons. He added onto these impressive stats with a 100 RBI season and 8 seasons with 200 hits. Most importantly, he helped the Yankees win 5 World Series Titles. He is a captain on the field with respect for the game and everyone who plays the game. He is a fair and talented player who knows how to lead his team to victory. Jeter is the man that everyone wants on their team. Players and fans of the Boston Red Sox (the Yankees biggest rivals) still even respect everything that Jeter has done. Jeter has lead the Yankees to numerous wins over the Red sox and even beating them out for World Series Titles multiple times, but the Red Sox fans and players still respect him. Jeter’s last at bat in his career took place at Fenway park, home of the Boston Red Sox. He received a huge standing ovation as he came to the plate, and after he got a single the crowd erupted. Even the fans that have been cheering against him and the Yankees their whole lives had to applaud Jeter during his last at bat because they respect everything he has done and they knew that was the end of the legends
