One of America's founding fathers, George Washington, was born on February 22, 1732, in Virginia, and was an American Statesman and soldier who served as the first President of the United States. [www.en.wikipedia.org] He served as Commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and was later inaugurated into office over the 1787 convention. He is considered to be a major driving force in America's success and the nation's establishment and ultimately came to be known as the “father of our country”. He eventually retired from presidency in 1797, and passed away on December 14, 1779, at his home at Mount Vernon due to acute epiglottis. Washington is remembered and recognized for his courage and ability to build a nation from the ground up. Howe was leading the largest military force Britain had ever appointed overseas. The battle on New York proved to be a turning point for Washington and his crew as, Howe’s army was larger, better equipped, and far better trained than Washington's.
