Why Is Grit Important To Success?

For many years people believed “willpower” or determination was an essential in order to get through difficult challenges. However, new studies have shown that “grit” and self-control are the main contributors to success. Angela Lee Duckworth, a Psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania had introduced the idea of grit back in 2013. According to Duckworth’s TED Talks video “The Power of Passion and Perseverance” grit is defined as “passion and perseverance for very long term goals”. Grit is the predictor of academic, professional, and personal success.
First of all, Grit is a predictor of academic success because scholars need to have the passion in order to maintain and reach their desired goal. In the Disney short film “The Tortoise and the Hare”, the hare was being overly conceited because he knew that he was going to win the race against the tortoise. When the hare was way ahead of the tortoise in the race, he had decided to take a nap and show off his skills to a group of female hares, while the tortoise was trying his best to bet the hare. At the end the tortoise had won the race, because the hare was too busy being egoistic.
