Human Anatomy is an important course for students interested in nursing because it provides a chance to learn about the human body. One of the major topics discussed in anatomy are the muscles of the skeletal system and their action. Muscles and their function provide a baseline of information that becomes crucial when furthering the study of the body, that is why it is important to get the information into long-term memory. It is essential that the information about the muscles and their actions be stored in long term memory before I am asked to identify them all in two weeks, and should remain in long term memory throughout my nursing career. The process of getting information into long term memory is known as the Modal Model. This model explains that the information trying to …show more content…
The information first enters sensory memory from the outside world, such as seeing and learning about it in class. From there we use attention and encode the information into short term memory. While in short term memory the information is constantly rehearsed until it is further encoded and finally reaches long term memory. Once the information has reached long term memory it is stored there and retrieved when needed. One method of study that could be used to help store the information about muscles and their actions is, chunking. Chunking is the process of grouping information together in a meaningful, organized way which would allow more information to be remembered at a time. With the muscles, I could begin to group them together by the actions they control. Although information can be stored into long-term memory, the accuracy of those memories
