Martin Luther King Jr. said in 1966, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” Preventative care is vital to good, life long health. Unfortunately, in America and world wide, children don’t receive the preventative care they need. This is often due to the cost or availability of health care resources. I believe that all children deserve to have equal access to health care and knowledge of how to take care of yourself, regardless of socio-economical status.
I want to work at a hospital that will care for the children to the highest level of care, regardless of whether the family can afford the treatment. Many hospitals already have programs like this, but what is lacking is preventative and primary care that is free of charge, or low cost in the United States. Without simple things like annual check ups, kids can grow up with less regard for their personal health. …show more content…

IUDM raises money for Riley Children’s Foundation, which is the fundraising arm of Riley Hospital for Children. Riley Children’s Foundation does more than just fund research and intiatives for the hospital, but also helps patients families who are unable to pay for their treatments. IUDM was founded in 1991, in honor of Ryan White, an Indiana teen who passed away from AIDs right before he was going to attend IU. In the past 25 years, IUDM has become the nations second largest student run philanthropy and has raised over $24 million since its founding, including over $3.8 million in 2015. At the marathon thousands of college students stand for those who can’t, for up to 36 hours.
