Anchor charts are very useful when it comes to classrooms. They can be implemented in many different ways by teachers to better help students with classroom instruction. One reason why anchor charts are important is because they can be a resourceful tool for students to refer back to when they are answering questions, expanding their ideas, or contributing to discussions and problem- solving in class. Many anchor charts that are put up around the classrooms have information on them that students may have learned in a lesson or rules that students must remember that are important in order for them to complete certain activities or assignments. Students are able to use anchor charts to refer back to when learning new material as well.
Teachers can use anchor charts as a resource when teaching new content that builds off of a previous content learned in class. When teachers do this it allows for the student to visualize and 'anchor' their learning because they associate the old information with the new information they are learning about. Anchor charts can be printed out for students as review. Students can also copy the anchor charts in a journal for future reference when they need it.
Anchor charts are a great way to facilitate student self- regulation and independence.

For example if a teacher has an anchor chart with that steps in takes to solve a long division problem the student can- after solving a problem- go back and take a look at the anchor chart to self- evaluate and see if they completed all the steps to get the correct answer. Anchor charts also promote independence because if a student forgets a rule or a concept that they were previously taught they can easily go and look up on the anchor chart in their classroom and be reminded of the concept or rule instead of having to ask the teacher to go over it
