Kanye West’s Controversial Impact Kanye West and controversy, two things that are almost synonymous with each other. It seems that most of the time Kanye is able to eventually rise higher than the controversies surrounding him and regain trust in the public. However, on rare occasions the issues are too immense for the music star to handle and lead him to face the full effects of the stress and hardship that comes as a result of his reckless behavior. Kanye West is affected by controversy because he lost brand deals, he burdened his fans and exiled himself from the public eye. As an artist, Kanye had many brand deals and endorsements from multiple companies due to his success. However, his recent antisemitic remarks led to “Adidas announc[ing] that it had ended its relationship with Kanye after a “thorough review” of the relationship. It said it would immediately stop production of its line of Yeezy products and stop payments to Ye and his companies. It expects to take a hit of up to $246 million to its net income this year from the move”(D’Zurilla). This shows that as a result of Kanye’s actions, he lost his largest brand deal worth lots of money and that controversy affects him negatively. Additionally at around the same time, West was facing scrutiny from GAP as a result of his comments. Before GAP had a chance to release Kanye from the company, “he gave notice to Gap that he was terminating their contract”(D’Zurilla). This shows that Kanye was facing controversy and he needed to resign in order to avoid even worse publicity showing how controversy affects him because it caused the termination of his deal. It’s no doubt these were huge hits for West and it’s important to remember why these cuts happened. These particular cuts came as a direct result of Kanye’s hateful actions (D’Zurilla).
