Martin Luther King Jr was an American clergyman and winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1964. He won the Nobel Prize for all of the things he has done to end inequality for African Americans. This includes the Montgomery Bus Boycott, his peaceful protesting, and of course, the iconic “I Have A Dream” speech. Assassinated in 1968, his legacy lives on, as we have a holiday for MLK every year and he had a defining influence on modern U.S. history and society.

On December 1, 1955, a woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat in the whites exclusive area for a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama. She was arrested for breaking the bus segregation law. Her arrest sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott when African American citizens
