Mastery Is More Important Than Test Scores Sal Khan is the creator of Khan Academy. His main goal is for students to fully understand what they are being taught by their teachers. He believes that schools need to update their teaching ethics and cater to their students as much as possible. Sal Khan is effective in his argument that says, "Let's teach for mastery and not test scores." He uses the appeals of logic and credibility to persuade his audience and show everyone his idea of teaching is more effective than what most schools are doing now. He believes if a student thinks a unit is too challenging, they won't try to understand it. I agree with Sal, but sometimes units just aren't interesting, or benefitting enough for students to work on. Sometimes, I find it easier to move on from the unit instead of working harder than normal to understand it. Students also tend to blame their problems on their teachers. But what Mr. Khan always says is,"People need to tap into their potential." It might seem hard to spend so much time on one unit or class, but maybe that will end up being your favorite subject or future job. Khan also said, If you go back in time and ask a legible person how many people they think with the right education would be able to read, they would say, "Oh maybe twenty percent." If you asked people today we would say around one hundred percent of people would be able to read. If you went around the streets today and asked people, "What percent of people do you think are able to do calculus?" We would probably say forty percent. But really anyone one can learn calculus if they have the right mindset and
