Remember being in high school, the feeling of always being stressed, and overwhelmed all the time? What if there was a way to help that constant feeling of being stressed, and helping other students today to be more focused and aware. Luckily, there is something that can help with all those negative feelings. It is called mindfulness. Most schools today don’t offer mindfulness practices, and those that do students have to pay a lot of money to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is focusing on one thing. It is becoming focused, and helping reduce stress and anxiety. It’s the state of being aware of something. Studies on children in grades first, through college have had positive results after practicing mindfulness for at least five minutes a day for a month. Schools should offer free mindfulness courses. To begin with, mindfulness is the quality of being aware of something. Mindfulness has many positive effects on students in the classroom. Students who participate in mindfulness activities are known to be more calm, and ‘present’ in the classroom. ‘Present,’ meaning, aware and conscious of their surroundings, being not only physically present but mentally as well. The truth is, the price will vary, but if schools wanted to participate in offering courses, any teacher or counselor can teach mindfulness. The person who will teach the courses need to go through an 8-week course and get certified as a mindfulness instructor and that does cost money. Schools can hire someone to teach mindfulness who is already certified, or bring in the school counselor. It will cost money, but the money won’t be wasted because the courses would be optional to students who would want to practice, and make improvements in their academic performance, and in their mental
