Odysseus would not be considered a hero if he lived in modern times. Nowadays, heroes do things a little differently than back then, but what exactly do heroes do? Do they go missing for twenty years, get all of their crew killed, wreck their own ship, all to return home and kill more people? Nope, didn’t think so, but that’s exactly what Odysseus did, and they want to consider this guy a hero. Odysseus did a lot of damage over the years, causing him to not be a hero.
Waiting for grade Odysseus should be considered a hero. Odysseus had been the protagonist throughout the story and we see the struggles he overcomes. Throughout the story, we see his hard dedication and hard work. He is known to be very helpful, has always put others before him, and he tries his hardest not to give up.
Who is a hero? A hero takes many forms, such as an allegorical hero, a tragic hero, or an epic hero. In the age of postmodernism, there are instances where a person can be both a hero and a villain. Odysseus is difficult to identify as a hero because of his many vices.
I believe that Odysseus is a hero because he displays many heroic characteristics. In Odyssey by Homer the main character Odysseus displays many heroic qualities on his journey. Odysseus and his men struggle to find their way home after being cursed by the gods. Odysseus’ heroic qualities shine on his journey back from the siege on Troy. “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing
Odysseus also shows that he is not a hero when he is arrogant while trying to leave the Cyclops’ island. His arrogance is shown when he says” If I could take your life I would take your time away and hurl you down to hell! The god of earthquakes could not heal you there!” (9,438-440). This proves that Odysseus is an arrogant person who thinks he can defeat someone stronger than him.
Merriam-Webster’s definition of a hero is a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities. Using that definition, yes, Odysseus is a hero. He was admired for his great bravery, and cunningness, but nowhere in the definition does it say that doing wrong things may have disqualified Odysseus from earning the title “hero”. Does plundering the island of Cicones, or staying back with Calypso and being untruthful to his wife make him a bad candidate for the title? If Odysseus were doing the things that he did today, he would certainly not be a hero in my eyes.
A hero is someone who is admired or idealized for their noble qualities. After all of Odysseus's adventures, he has proven to be a true hero. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is a hero in many ways. He has great tactics of leading his men through dangerous situations. Odysseus also never leaves his men behind.
A hero is someone who protects and sacrifices for the people who can not do that for themselves. A hero is brave and courteous, and makes decisions to benefit the greater good, even if it means taking the short end of the stick for one’s self. Odysseus is a largely dynamic character that undergoes many hardships and obstacles that test his abilities and his morals. After being taken from his family, Odysseus embarks on a harrowing journey with more than its fair share of anguish, suffering, and sorrow. Although Odysseus acheived his dream of returning home in the end, the unfaithful and deceitful path that he walked to do so stripped him of all heroic qualities while also sacrificing the life of every man in his crew.
A Hero or a Self-Serving Pirate? Odysseus’ journey is interpreted in one of two ways: either hailed as a hero for his bravery throughout, or a figure whose actions can be seen the same as a self-serving pirate. In the epic poem, “The Odyssey'' by Homer, Odysseus the protagonist is shown as a self-serving pirate who demonstrates traits of impulsiveness, arrogance, and entitlement. Although Odysseus’ journey is often celebrated as heroic, a closer look will show readers his actions prioritized, exemplifying his narcissistic nature. We first see Odysseus show impulsive behavior when Odysseus allows his men to consume the Lotus fruit offered by the Lotus Eaters.
In the epic story the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is returning from the Trojan war, and on his way home he finds many obstacles ahead of him. Odysseus is the ruler of Ithaca and he is trying to return home to his land. Many creatures try and stop him from achieving his goal of returning home, but he and his crew have to push through and get home. Odysseus portrays bravery and courage leading his crew through these tough challenges. Odysseus heroically leads his crew and himself through dangerous obstacles, but also foolishly endangers them during the journey home.
Odyssey Essay “Nothing stops the man who desires to achieve. Every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle. It’s strengthening of his powers of accomplishment” - Thomas Carlyle. In the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus, the king of Ithaca goes upon a journey, and encounters danger and challenges that prevents him from going back to Ithaca, which is his goal. What makes a hero a hero? If a so-called hero has major flaws, is he still considered a hero?Odysseus did many great and heroic things but some of the things he did make him look less like a hero. Odysseus can be thought of as very brave in the physical and spiritual sense but because of his failure to get his men back home to Ithaca and his unfaithfulness to his wife, he was not truly a hero. Odysseus is thought of as a hero in the physical and spiritual sense because of his bravery while facing the many dangers of creatures, goddesses, and many other things for almost 20 years trying to get home to his wife and son. He never failed to remember his main goal was to get back to his wife and son in Ithaca.
Odysseus-The famous Greek hero Everyone wants to be a hero, because that is a honor. But no one exactly knows what a hero is and what their life like? Homer, the famous Greek poet, he writes a famous epic the "Odyssey" to record and praise the famous hero Odysseus, who is the king of the Ithaca. For the Troy war, Odysseus has to leave his family to lead his army to fight the war for 7 years. Some think Odysseus is a hero for many reasons, mainly because he helps many people including his family and his crew. Even when terrible things happen to him and his crew he perseveres and continues on his journey home. Even though Odysseus and his men do bad things like eating the sun god’s cattle there still are many reasons why he is a hero. One reason to support my claim is that he saves his crew many times. One example is when they sailed by the Sirens.
