Despite his above average reading, he suffered from a speech impediment. When he was called upon to read out loud in class, other students would make fun of him and laugh, resulting in a punch to the face. He was short-tempered and would get in fights often, which would get him sent to the principal’s office. Myers describes his encounters with many of his teachers, most of which despised him. Since the beginning, humans have been held to certain standards regarding morality our rights as humans. History shows us leaders and rulers who, in their reign of power, have misused their power and attacked human’s rights to agency and liberty. By looking at all the wars, violence, criminals, and acts of immorality that humans have accomplished, many assume that humans are not good at fighting for the rights of others. However, in every war, and every act of violence, there is an opposing force. There will always be someone fighting for the good of others, whether it be one person or a whole army, which comes to show that humans are essentially good at fighting for the rights of others.
The Playground” has more morals than just running around and coaching some children during the summer for Thomas Chang. As he exclaims, “That summer job turned out to be one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever had.” (pg.1) Even though he was scared or not sure if he wanted to “walk onto playground,” he still took that chance and the second week was ready to venture out on his own. He realized that in order to teach someone or even just coach them you have to earn their respect. For example, he discovered that “blowing a whistle and shouting was not impressive,” (pg.1) or didn’t get them to do anything.
This article is about a college professor who has been charged with sexual harassment by 4 of his students. This included “groping them, kissing them and touching or massaging them”. The professor posted an apology note on the universities web page, apologizing for his actions. He has been asked to step down from some of the committees he is a part of but has retained his job.
The school said they expelled the narrator because it would hurt the honor of the school, but this might not the entire truth. If the school had let this event fly it would have damaged the reputation of the school, while also hurting the narrator too. The future of the narrator would have been damaged because he might not have become a writer. When the narrator left the school, the school’s reputation didn’t fall, and the narrator was in a better position than he would have been. This means that it’s a win-win scenario for the narrator and the school.
Holmes’s article, “The Case for Teaching Ignorance” is an article originally published last year in the New York Times in the opinion pages. The article explains a concept behind an incident in the mid 1980’s when a surgery professor entitled her course, “Introduction to Medical and Other Ignorance”. The concept of the course was so poorly received that other officials within the school stated they would “rather resign than support a class on ignorance” (Holmes p. 1). The author elaborates by stating, “focusing on uncertainty can foster latent curiosity, while emphasizing clarity can convey a warped understanding of knowledge” (Holmes p. 2). Today’s college students are becoming more sensitized to the harshness of the outside world. Instead of learning to be resilient to others’ comments, they are being taught to take offense to any little word that could in some way be connected with a bad experience they might have had, and college administrators and professors are aiding this childish behavior. They are backing this movement to make adults into children. With this new movement to rid college campuses of any speech that may make anyone feel uncomfortable, students are being treated less like adults, and more like elementary children.
Mr. Clark was a great judge of character and because of that he knew what he had to do when he became in charge of the school. A bold move, but what he had done was expel all of the hoodlums and drug dealers and just the bad apples. He took all the kids who didn’t belong in that school and kicked them out. He believes in order for his students to do better he has to get rid of the negative influence. Further into the movie Mr. Clark decides to address his students before they go and take the state exam.
This is a question that has been widely argued over for years and years and is still continued to be a major argument today. Many argue that the book should be banned from schools because of the racial statements in the book and that it could offend or become bothersome to students. All the book does is remind the students of the history of slavery and that slavery existed. “The n-word” is used many times in this book and people in todays day and age are hurt and offended by such a word.

A teacher from Drake High School decided to teach a book by Vonnegut called Slaughterhouse-Five. But that was soon stopped when “Charles McCarthy, the head of the school board, decided that the novel’s “obscene language” was not appropriate,” so in turn he had “every copy of Slaughterhouse-five at Drake High School...burned in the schools furnace,” (source 2, introduction). That may sound excessive, but he was not in the wrong in trying to protect the children. He had the right idea to shield the children as long as he can from “bad things”. But he should not have burned the books.
The lesson being taught is to not trying and use unethical means to get things done, and to get things done with intending to hurt the people around
