George S. Patton was a senior officer of the United States army who is known to have said "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't,”(US Today) after WW2 was declared by the United States against Japan. Senior officers wanted Japan to pay the price for the catastrophe caused in the United States in 1941. There are various perspectives that contradict the settlement that the United States made on August 6, 1945, to drop the first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, and three days later attacking Nagasaki. The nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a major turning point of the 20th century. After their victory with China, they proceeded their aggression towards the United States. The United States feared Japan's expansion and they needed to protect their democracy. To protect the United States, they warned Japan and sent them ultimatums to surrender. At the time, president Franklin D. Roosevelt took the initiative to protect the United States territory by embargoing on all iron, and oils sales and economic ties with Japan. The United States even dropped leaflets on the cities of Japan as warning signs. Both United States and Russia disliked each other and their political systems, USA was democratic while Russia was communist. They were Allies during World War II only because they had to fight a mutual enemy, which was Nazi Germany. As a communist, totalitarian state, the USSR sought to ensure the security of its borders and the political dominance of the Communist party”.
