The Battle at Chancellorsville at its time was the bloodiest battle in American history, until the Battle at Gettysburg. The battle was fought in the south by the Confederacy, lead by Robert E. Lee and the Union with General Joseph Hooker. The battle was an incessant one, fought from May 1-4 of 1863 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia by the county of Chancellorsville. After the battle that last four days, the Confederacy claimed a surprising victory, but this would be their last victory, because a critical turning point in the war was coming. Major events and battles leading up to the battle of Chancellorsville include the battle of Antietam, the Emancipation Proclamation and Conscription.
