Abstract
The Declaration of Independence is an important historical document that has helped shape the United States. Its importance dates back to the year 1776 when America was facing tough problems concerning Great Britain. Despite the distress that consumed the American people, they gathered together in unity to revolt against the unfair British rule. This document was used as a tool to influence the American people to fight for their independence from Great Britain. The American Revolutionary War was a time of great milestones for the American people. Under British rule, the colonists were treated poorly and unfairly, creating an uprising among the people that sparked a time of change. The colonists decided to fight back against the British rule and they considered the idea of becoming independent from Great Britain. On July 4, 1776 this important and renown document was first presented to the public, serving as a beacon of hope and change (Anonymous, N.d.). It is extremely important to remember what issues the colonists faced and realize the important value of this document. Furthermore, it is also important to compare the past with the present and recognize that the our culture has evolved The Declaration of Independance offered relief and freedom for many types of oppression, however with the changing culture of the United States, this document needs to be updated in order to meet the needs of its citizens …show more content…

Although these morals provided a strong basis and foundation for the country at the time, the culture and environment among the people has changed. The wants and the needs of the citizens have transformed into different issues that the Declaration does not address. The change within the cultural issues from past to present demands that the Declaration be updated to address these situations and provide answers to these problems, still incorporating the ideals and principles of the founding fathers.
