Was the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893 illegal? mostly all of the revolutions in American history are illegal. The American revolution of 1776 was also illegal.

When people think about Hawaii, people envision the nice tropical weather, the perfect beaches, and its many diverse cultures. People from all over the world come to Hawaii to relax and stay for a couple weeks in paradise. But most of the people that visit don’t know how Hawaii came to be a state or how badly and unfairly the Hawaiians were treated by the Americans. People probably don’t know how the Americans had taken control of their religion and culture. The people in Hawaii have still held on to most of the traditions.

As a result of the Spanish-American War, the United States decided annex the Hawaii in order to use Hawaii as a military base to fight against the Spanish. The United States has remained in the Hawaiian Islands and the Hawaiian Kingdom has since been under occupation to the present, but it continues as an independent State and remains intact under international law.On January 17, 1893, Queen Lili'uokalani, was removed in a coup d'état led by Americans who were against Queen Lili'oukalani's attempt to establish a new Constitution. The coup was bloodless, with only one man wounded. Due to the Queen's desire to not have anybody seriously harmed the Queen ordered her forces to surrender. The Overthrow was illegal because of the U.S Government’s involvement in this overthrow and because of the U.S marines. Hawaii had no chance trying to defend and protect the monarchy, the U.S forces were too powerful. In each and every step along Hawaii's path from being an independant nation to being annexed, to becoming a state was done in with the violation of treaties and laws without a say from the Native Hawaiians
