Two quotes that support this is “I fought, but the hand at the back of my neck was strong and I had to hold my breath. I’m dying I thought.”. This piece of evidence reveals how much Johnny cares about Pony. The other quote is “I didn’t what to do Pony. They were going to drown you.”.
He is kind to his gang and helps people out and tries to learn but it isn't for him. Johnny also tries to emotionally help Pony when they were crying. He says to Pony, “stay gold, Ponyboy. stay gold…”pg. 148.
The gang is important to Johnny because they are the closest thing he has to a family. Even if his biological family are alive , they are physically and emotionally abusive to him. He considers the greasers family because they look after him and show him love, something he's real family lacked. As much as the gang is important to Johnny , he is important to the gang too. They make him feel valued and wanted unlike he's real family.
He stayed with Johnny when he wanted to run away so the cops wouldn’t find him and changed his look for him. Greasers are really particular when it comes to their hair, so the fact that Ponyboy dyed his hair for Johnny is very courteous. Hes also a hero because he stays strong for Johnny. Johnny’s parents abuse him and Pony’s parents have passed and him and his older brother, his guardian have their ups and downs. But even when Pony was slapped by his brother he stayed strong because he knew he needed to… for Johnny.
Johnny shows Ponyboy that the world isn’t corrupt with mean people and that it is still full of good. Johnny stated in the note Ponyboy found in the book Gone With The Wild that it is was worth saving the kids even if it meant his life. He also stated that the poem in the book meant “He meant you’re gold when you’re a kid, like green… and don’t get bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There’s still lots of good in the world” (Hinton 178-9).
Johnny, the second youngest Greaser, gets jumped by Socs, and has feared them since the incident. Johnny, the loyal gang member, gets described as the gang 's pet. Yet, he still believed in doing the right thing and was the most law-abiding kid in the group. For example, one
Also when they were in the church Ponyboy says “He looked like he was having the time of his life”(Hinton, 79). This shows he loves saving people. A final reason he’s heroic is because Johnny shoved Ponyboy to the window to save Ponyboy instead of saving himself. This shows he cares more about others lives than his life.
He realizes that there is more in life than just the Socs and greasers. Johnny shows that to pony when he says, “ I don’t mind dying now… It’s worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more mine…” (pg.178)
Johnny shows this theme by not letting how the greasers are seen or how the greasers see him affect his actions. First of all, when Dally is harassing two girls at a movie theater. To everyone's surprise, Johnny demanded, “‘Leave her alone, Dally’... It had taken more than just nerve for him to say what he’d said to Dally-Johnny worshiped the ground Dallas walked on, and I had never heard Johnny talk back to anyone, much less his hero” (24-25). This action of Johnny speaking up to Dally surprises Ponyboy because Johnny always follows and agrees with Dally.
A clear sign of the gangs influence on Johnny was when he decided to prevent the Soc’s from drowning Ponyboy and defending himself instead of letting the Socs beat them up and have them possibly drown Ponyboy. More specifically, after finally fighting back and killing Bob, he says to Ponyboy “‘I killed him’ he said slowly. ‘I killed that boy”’(Hinton 56). Here the author is explaining how shocked Johnny was once he killed the Soc.
We gotta hide him. He’ll be at the lot in a minute” the gang's friendship shows that they will do anything for their fellow member and even if the cops are after them they will hide them even if they get caught in the process. It shows the gangs loyalty to each other and how much they care for eachother even if some of them aren't as close, they still treat each other like family. Furthermore Ponyboy and Johnny show their loyalty to each other in chapter 5 where they fled to an abandoned church.
Like Ponyboy, Johnny does not fit into the Greaser gang. Ponyboy says to the reader at the beginning of the novel, “Johnny Cade was last and least. If you can picture a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers, you'll have Johnny. He had a nervous, suspicious look in his eyes, and that beating he got from the Socs didn't help matters (Hinton 11).” Stated in the quote, Pony explained in detail how Johnny can be considered as an outsider.
He could take anything. It was Johnny I was worried about.” He knows how frightened and anxious Johnny is after being jumped and how he is not as tough as the rest of the Greasers. Especially without a loving family at home, Johnny only has the gang and is not able to take as much. Throughout the whole novel, Ponyboy expresses how much he cares for others both with Johnny, and
People are often misconceived for what they present on the outside, not what’s on the inside. This is shown in a number of characters in a number of novels. One of these novels, is called the Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton. In this novel, there is a boy named Johnny, who is in a gang called the greasers. He is like the pet of the gang, and without him, their is no balance between the gang mates.
I never gave capitalism and socialism a second thought, I really had no clue what either of them were. Until I was given the opportunity to do some research on socialism and capitalism. I came up with some interesting facts and information I never knew. Upon learning the difference between capitalism and socialism, I learned that the United States is a mix of capitalism and socialism. But how much different are capitalism and socialism really are?
