Traditions were made to continue for generations. Everyone has a dark side including us, but in the story “The Lottery” the villagers are evil and cold hearted because they don’t care about who they kill. Traditions are events that happen every year or at an age like in the lottery. The book “The Lottery” is about a tradition that people do every year and you will find out about the tradition. For example we have a tradition which is christmas every year we celebrate and give gifts to one another and bring happiness and we have kept that going for a very long time. The villagers in the lottery have a choice either if they want to keep it going or if they want to end it. The tradition that they have is about corn and sacrificing the lottery winner for corn. The villagers sometimes forget about the lottery ,but Mr.Summers would remind them about the tradition. When Tessie got surrounded Mrs.Hutchinson screamed “it isn't fair, it isn't right” because she was against the lottery and she was the only who was up against the tradition. Mr.Summers wanted to keep the tradition going and he has been involved in the tradition for over 73 years. Mr. Summers should end the tradition to let the people live and enjoy their lives. When they kill the “winner” they don’t get anything out of it they just kill an innocent person and decrease their population. They're tradition that they have is bad.
