Developing the patient experience is fundamental in the healthcare environment. The struggles in the healthcare industry have led patients to become more apprised, and expect higher quality, more value, and better outcomes. Patient experience is viewed as a principal indicator of quality of care and assists in understanding patients' perceptions of their care. Case Questions Why is patient experience a quality concern? Do you see this changing in the future? The patient experience is related to the patient’s understanding of the care they receive. A patient experience occurs with each healthcare encounter. The quality of that encounter may vary depending on how the patient perceives the care received. The experience is about what, when, and how the healthcare occurred. An experience plays a vital role in patient centered care. If the healthcare professional is not familiar with or knowledgeable about what care, they are providing then how is the patient going to receive the best care. Education of healthcare improves not only the healthcare professionals’ practices, but it also provides the patient with the understanding of why the care is being provided in the matter it is. Patient satisfaction is related to the patient’s expectations of the care received. (Larson et al., 2019) Educating the patient on their healthcare can enhance satisfaction and compliance with medical regimens. Patient education is critically important in decision making of lifestyle choices which can lead to improved or poor health well-being.
