This was the most important factor in Rome’s fall because the military was what protected the people and Rome. Growth changed the ideal of the republic and new problems surfaced within Rome itself. Weapons such as the Gladius, the Scutum and the Pilum were all very important weapons for the Romans. The Gladius was the Romans' take on a small sword that was effective as a close range weapon. The Scutum was their form of a shield, and the Pilum was a javelin used for long range combat.
One thing I think the United States did right during the Cold War would have to be the Marshal plan. This was the American’s plan to help Europe reestablish economic stability. All these were crucial parts in the making of weapons and armor for the military.
