The Wisdom Books located in the Old Testament are; Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, the Book of Wisdom and Ecclesiasticus The Wisdom literature is significant in many ways for both Israelite people and Christians today. It contains many wise sayings about; life, people and their behaviour, and thoughts about God and the world. The books within the Wisdom literature (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, the Book of Wisdom and Ecclesiasticus) each bring us closer to understanding God and ourselves as they help us to think about our life experiences and the way we live. The Book of Proverbs teaches us that as wise person is a person who listens to the voices of history as they hold knowledge of experience, intelligence and common sense. The ancient Israelite people had a tradition of reflecting on the tests that life faced them with. Over many centuries the Israelites recorded these reflections and developed them into paragraphs of writing. These writings gave advice on problems/questions people face and directions for wise living. The Book of Proverbs is the most commonly known type of this literature.
