In the essay titled “Labouring the Walmart Way”, author Deenu Parmar explains the unhealthy effects of Walmart, how to stop them, and the challenges of doing so. Parmar begins by detailing how Walmart has done little for local economies. By hiring financially vulnerable people, the franchise insures that no one would dare to unionize; thus ensuring employees will only earn the bare minimum, and thus out-competing local competition. Parmar also goes on to explain how a local community removed Walmart. They were able to do this through the use of fierce union protests that made the store unprofitable.
“Is Wal-Mart Good For America?” affords viewers a thoughtful analysis into the dubious ethical methodologies employed by the Wal-Mart Corporation. Unquestionably, Wal-Mart is not infallible and their strict adherence to low prices has pushed other companies out of business. For example, Rubbermaid, as mentioned in the documentary, fell into Wal-Mart’s paradoxical low pricing trap and forfeited into a merger with a competitor.
‘Is Wal-Mart Good for America?’ On PBS Frontline, May 11, 2015 ‘Is Wal-Mart Good for America?’ is a documentary that examines the relationship between Wal-Mart’s rapid growth and its impact on the US economy ever since it blossomed in trade productivity in the mid 20th century. The documentary, published on February 2014 by PBS Frontline, conveys a deep understanding of how Wal-Mart changed the living standards of many Americans and took consumerism and retail logistics in the U.S. to another level; by cutting costs through offshore outsourcing to China and employing cheap Chinese labor. The documentary focuses on the changing relationship between big retailers and manufacturers and the transition in pricing and decision-making.

This debate focuses on the importance of Walmart for the families and the economy of America. Richard Vedder and John Tierney were for the debate while Amy Traub and Nelson Lichtenstien are against it. In Richard’s opening statement, he praises Walmart and clear the poverty issues Walmart solves in the opening statement. Tierney addresses that Walmart saves and redistributes money from developed to developing countries. He touches on saying that many trial lawyers and unions target Walmart.
Wal-Mart and the local economy Walmart is a corporation that wants to make as much money as they can. Walmart employees are treated unfair and make a low salary what will not support family and necessities in life. Walmart also have negative affects upon other small businesses that are located next to the Walmart’s. Most of Walmart’s employees starts at minimum wage to less than nine dollars in hour.
Records show due to Walmart is all around the place, gross domestic prices have gone up in an amount. Even though Walmart set up bad labor and gives bad opportunities to their employees, customers still thinks it is very convenient due to the low price. Since it is all around the corner, it is easy for people to walk in and walk out in any minute. The shopping carts are also a useful tool for customers to pick up their products, they also have small drive shopping carts for disables so they can even come to the store without any help. Nothing is better than Walmart in my opinion.
Based on a systematic assessment, this paper examines the controversial relationship shared between the citizens of the United States and Wal-Mart. In the beginning, I believed Wal-Mart to be a positive force in the United States’ economy. From a consumer’s perspective, the company produces name-band goods and several services, at prices that other companies cannot afford to promote. However, most consumers do not realize how their purchases affect the overall job market and economy. For instance, with the increase in consumers who shop at Wal-Mart, the number of consumers who shop at local businesses and service providers have dramatically decreased.

There is about 9,000 or more of Wal-marts worldwide and they have over 2 million local worker since 2013. There are also many retail prices for setting low prices to the impact of overstock goods. Wal-Mart gets lots of money from all the people who buy items from groceries, electronics, and many other items for stock and that’s put out to buy.
That makes shopping easy because you can get mostly everything in one store. 4. Most of the Wal-Mart stores are open 24/7, which is a good thing because you would not have to wait until a store open to going to it. 5. They have people throughout the store that can help a customer out if need to be.
Wal-Mart has been one of the top retail store offering products at a very low price. But the low prices have had a huge affect on the companies that the retail store is doing business with. The businesses are forced to send jobs overseas because those businesses cannot be profitable if the labor cost more than they can gain. People today are losing jobs in the United States because of Wal-Mart’s actions to reduce prices as much as possible. “Wal-Mart is not just the world’s largest retailer.
Wal-Mart has faced numerous lawsuits for inequitable labor. The huge market enterprise values its employees with little respect. For example, it demands for long hours and overtime shifts to meet holiday sales. This is one of the reasons why the company has earned an outstanding profit over the decade. Yet, with all the affluence the company has, it still does not compensate for workers' healthcare benefits nor their low wages.
Why is Wal-Mart successful? Arguably, because they have created the industry standard in supply chain management, vendor management, IT, and job satisfaction of associates creating the largest company in America. Their vast supply chain management and IT investments have truly separated Wal-Mart from all other competitors in their industry and arguably across all industries. They are the benchmark in which all others measure them in these areas. Although Wal-Mart is exceptional in multiple aspects, we must also think about all the disadvantages within it. There are various little things such as not providing health care for their employees, the abundance of applications that don't get looked at, and employees not being able to establish a union. Now one must look at all the larger problems within Wal-Mart. Firstly, Wal-Mart carries almost everything but their employees do not know much about what they're selling. This is not valuable for someone trying to fix something within their home.
Their employees are trained well and very friendly. I always recommend my friends to go to Walmart for shopping because there are many things you could buy from Walmart. This could save someone hundreds of dollars in buying things such as food items, clothing, electronics, furniture and many more. An article from Business Wire states that Walmart has over 260 million customers that shop every week and that employ over 2.2 people around the world. This has impacted many people to shop at Walmart because the diversity that it brings to its residents.
