Walt Disney is one of the most well-known names in the film industry. The company he built continues to make millions and take home Academy Awards more than fifty years after his death. Driven by his patriotism, propaganda films were created using his famous animated characters that defined the enemy (Hongmei). After the war, in addition to animated films, Disney began to produce a series of live-action films in the 1940s (Walt Disney). Disney’s success economically only continued when he decided to build a theme park. He did not originally intend to build a large-scale theme park. However, the plans soon grew to a 16-acre plot of land, now called Disneyland.
After Snow White, Disney continued to produce series of full-length animation films, live action films, and short films totaling up to more than 100. These films earned Disney unimaginable success that lead to the opening of Disneyland, Disney’s $17 million dollar theme park (Source A). The park received tremendous success, earning more than 10 times its investment cost. Disney was not able to be there for the revealing of Walt Disney World which opened in 1971. These parks along with the company itself gave employment to more than 800 people.
Walt Disney is best known for an extremely creative entrepreneur. Besides being an illustrator and an animator, Disney was always looking for way to reinvent the entertainment industry and step out of ordinary. In 1927 Disney began looking for new approaches to his cartoons, this is when Mickey Mouse was born. Although Mickey Mouse was an instant hit, Disney was not satisfied and decided to make the first cartoon with synchronized music, talking and sound effects. It was the first time, something of this nature was done.
Walt Disney was one of five children, four boys and a girl. He moved to Kansas City in 1911 where he left his friends, neighbors, and his paintings, but before he moved there he lived in Marceline Missouri where he live most of his life.
