William Shakespeare was born on April 23 1564 in Stratford-upton-Avon. He died 52 years later in 1616. Shakespeare was born into a family not of great wealth nor nobility. He was third eldest in a family of eight children Shakespeare grew up in a small town in a small house. Soon after Shakespeare was born, Stratford was hit by a terrible plague, some of his brother died, websites contradict exactly how many. Nevertheless he and his parents survived the attack. Some say this atrocious event inspired him to write blood-thirsty tragedies. He never attended university because there was a lack of money to support it. At the age of 18, he married a woman 8 years his senior. Her name was Anne Hathaway and later she outlived her husband by 7 years. Historians call the period after that his “dark years” for there is little recorded of what happened in his life other than he became the father of three children, their eldest: Susanna and a pair of twins: Hamnet and Judith.
